Since NPhero went down, I haven't installed a new counter. I've heard boingdragon is good, but I don't know if there's been anything that really replaces NPhero yet.

To everyone:

If you use boingdragon, what's good and bad about it? If you use something else, would you recommend it?

I'd like to have everyone using the same counter, so if you have any good ideas, let's talk about it.

Hey, I hadn't used NPHero before, so I don't know what standard boingdragon (which I'm using now) should be held to. Its pretty basic in my eyes, it tracks your visitors, shows you what pages they have seen, but I can't figure out how to block my own visits to the shop (to check banners etc). I can see how many people go to the second page though, about 1/3 do, so it can be useful to measuring exposure to certain pages if you are so inclined. We could use it to manipulate our pages etc to measure rough hits, but thats another issue.

Thanks, Roby. That's what i had heard. Measuring hit by page is definitely useful.

NPhero was greatl cuz it listed all neopets shops, and ranked them against each other continuously, on a hits per day basis.

boing dragon isn't a neopets-centric service. But inless we find another one, it may be the current standard.

I am trying out a couple of counters starting today.

boingdragon has lots of information.
Quote :
Counts by Counter Instance for past 7 days

Numbers in green are unique (counted) hits.
Numbers in red are repeat (non-counted) hits.
Numbers in blue are combined unique + repeat totals.

Average Number of Hits by Hour

Counts by URL for past 7 days
[this is the shop page urls, so I can see how the first page compared to the rest]

Hits per hour is interesting. I installed sometime after 1 PM, and this is what it shows:
1:00 = 4.14
2:00 = 18.00
3:00 = 16.57
4:00 = 8.86 => changed to 10.71 while I was typing.

I need to get a better understanding of what this is averaging. Also, for some reason, the counter is invisible. I'm in no hurry to fix it.

The other one I've installed is from http://whos.amung.us
Cute name.

So what this does is tell you how many people are currently viewing your page. Right now, for instance, there are 10 people in my shop. Shocked That's cool to know! It seems we can't get the full service out of this because of Neopets restrictions on the code and linking stuff.

Hey - I'm excited! neomallers has a really good looking counter, complete with a Shop Ranking feature, and iot lets you know how many hits are from your own hut banner, and how many are from your mall-buddies business. This looks very promising!

I've installed it on my shop-front. I haven't finished reading the background on this, but it seems to be new. If you want to try it, great! Just watch out, the code is little goofy - it's missing a " and isn't explained as well as it could be.

NOTE: If this turns out to be a good counter, it will become a mall requirement.

I've had boingdragon counters installed on various pages (including my shop front) for years and years. They've been fairly reliable, in that they don't randomly dissapear etc and the customization options are excellent. The site itself has become rather finicky though, making it hard to access statistics or further customize existing counters.

I'm interested to see how you go with the neomallers version Egg Very Happy

What I really appreciated from NPhero was the rating list. Enough of the big players used it that the list was a good tool to monitor and measure your own activity levels. We'll see if this catches on enough to make it the place to be ...

Since installing it at around 1 pm NST, I've had 86 hits via the mall links, 4 via the wiz. If we want, we can see how many customers are arriving from from other members, too, with a little coding adjustment.

Added it about 10 minutes ago and adapted my code. Looks promising. It will cost us a fair number of characters though in our banner.

You're right, if we want to see how many hits we're getting through the mall-links. That will add 5 characters to each button, I think. It may be worth it though.

This is part of what makes the counter interesting:

Your hut Other Mall Members Petpages Shop Wiz Noticeboard
Today:25218040
Yesterday:134528050

This is how the hits to my shop have been generated - either from my banner link in the hut I'm in, some miscellaneous link, from buttons in other mall member shops, or directly from the wiz. I don't have petpage links or an NB ad.

We can finally see how linking to a variety of shops accounts for so much of our business. And how keeping the banner up-to-date is really important to the whole group. I love you

Above where it gives you that banner code, you should see something like mine -
Quote :
Copy and paste this counter code
<img src="http://shops.neomallers.com/EWP.gif?theme=metalorange">

Take that bit (with your NeoMallers ID) and paste it into your shop code, at the bottom. Have a look at my banner code right near the bottom for an example-
http://phoenixfeather.forumotion.net/banner-codes-f2/egg-s-banner-code-t190.htm

You can also see where I've highlighted the &banner for my shop. That should give you an idea of where you need to add that. Basically, anything that customers can see from your hut that will bring them directly to your shop when it's clicked. Top banner, default Directory banner and buttons, page feathers, personal shop banners. At least your Top banner and default Directory banner link should have it.
